What Is Email Hosting?

KB-6.1 · 1 min · Updated September 2026

Email hosting is the service that actually runs your inbox: the servers that receive, store, and let you send mail for addresses at your domain ( you@yourcompany.com ), as opposed to the domain registration itself, which only reserves the name.

This distinction trips people up constantly, because registering a domain and getting email at that domain feel like they should be the same purchase, but they're two separate things that happen to often be sold by the same company. Registering yourcompany.com gets you ownership of the name and the ability to point it wherever you want; it doesn't, by itself, give you a working inbox at that domain. Email hosting is the separate service, often, but not always, offered by the same registrar, that actually provides mailboxes, storage, and mail-server access for addresses at that domain.

NameBright sells both: domain registration and separate paid email hosting, rather than bundling a free inbox in with every domain purchase.
